How Do I Know It's Time to Get Help?
Transcription:
What should I do if my personal coping strategies aren’t working? How do I know it’s time to get help?
Fantastic question. Sarah, I am going to let you take that.
So when I know my personal coping strategies aren’t working is one, are they causing me more stress?
Right? It’s like, “Oh, I have to do this thing again,” and building ourselves up just to do these different pieces. if it’s causing more stress, throw it out. And try something different!
Or if you notice like, “Hey, I’m doing all this stuff, I should be feeling better,” you know, maybe that’s time to talk to your family, talk to your provider, and say, you know, is this something else going on? And being honest.
It’s so easy, again, for us to wear our masks when we go for our physical and the doctor asks, “In the last month, how have you been feeling?” It’s so easy to give them the answers you know they want to hear, but it brings it to a whole different level when we can be honest with ourselves and with those that want to help us to say, “Actually, I haven’t been doing good, and I’d really like to talk about what that looks like.”
Or talk to your provider and say, “Maybe it is time that I need medication or something else to help me because what I’m doing doesn’t seem to be making the impact that I need to be able to live a fulfilling life.”
