How to Help Your Team Feel Comfortable Being Noticed
Transcription:
So you can’t really expect someone who has been feeling ignored to just all of a sudden speak up. And so now, maybe they are the center of attention, which could be extremely uncomfortable for that individual who’s maybe been flying under the radar.
And as a leader, the first thing you can do is sort of start to acknowledge the fact that maybe you have been ignoring, inadvertently ignoring, some of your team members, right? And just be transparent about that.
Bring what you are working on as a leader to your team and say, you know, I have really been struggling with being present and noticing lately, and I’m gonna really put some time and energy into focusing on that. And I just wanted you to know that that’s what I’m gonna be doing. And so you can call attention to the fact that, you know, you maybe haven’t done a good job of doing that.
And so trying to recognize that we’re all human and we make mistakes too, but not calling the person out for feeling, you know, ignored or not feeling seen. And so then instead of asking for volunteers in a situation, you can ask pointed questions so you can call on people.
Because what you may notice is that when you’re asking for opinions in a group after a meeting, the same people tend to speak out, right?
And so if you can call on someone, then their opinion and their voice can be heard too. So there’s just small things and a little bit of a shift in a mindset that can really help you to be open to noticing everyone on your team.
